Notice of Destruction of Special Education Records

This annual notice describes district record retention and destruction timelines for former special education records.

Notice Summary

In accordance with federal and state requirements, Reedsport School District destroys special education records that are no longer needed to provide services.

Records for former special education students, referred students, or students who exited services may be destroyed after the retention period described in district policy.

The district retains permanent directory-level records such as student name, last known contact information, attendance, classes attended, grade completed, and year completed.

Records Included In Purge

  • Test protocols and written evaluation reports
  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Transition plans and related educational service records
  • Other documents maintained for provision of FAPE services

Important Deadline Information

  • Records are generally purged annually after June 30.
  • Former students or guardians who want copies should contact the district before the destruction cycle.
  • Some records may be needed for Social Security or other future benefits.
  • The district also attempts advance notification by phone when possible.
